The Gaumukh Trek, at 4023 meters in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand, takes you to the snout of the Gangotri glacier, the source of the Bhagirathi River and a key tributary of the Ganga. This 18 km trail begins at Gangotri, where, according to legend, Goddess Ganga descended from Lord Shiva’s locks. It’s one of the largest glaciers in the Himalayas, offering a stunning adventure and a spiritual journey.

Itinerary
Day 1 : Dehradun to Dharali/Gangotri | 250 km drive, 12-13 hours
Our journey starts from Dehradun at 7:00 AM, with overnight buses from Delhi. The 280 km drive features scenic spots like Maneri Waterfalls and the changing terrain near Dharali/Gangotri. Arriving by evening, we’ll check into the hotel, meet the team, and enjoy dinner together.
Day 2 : Dharali/Gangotri to Chirbasa | Trek Distance: 09 km | Trek Duration: 6 hours | Altitude: 10500 ft to 11630 ft
After an early breakfast, the team will visit the Gangotri temple, take a dip in the Bhagirathi River, and seek blessings (time permitting). Today’s trek starts with a steep ascent, followed by a gradual climb. We’ll reach Chirbasa campsite by lunchtime, nestled in a scenic spot with views of the Bhagirathi peaks through pine trees. In the evening, we’ll do an acclimatization walk, followed by dinner at the campsite.
Day 3 : Chirbasa to Bhojbasa | Trek Distance: 5.5 km | Trek Duration: 5-6 hours | Altitude: 11630 ft to 12415 ft
After breakfast at Chirbasa, we’ll start the trek and reach Bhojbasa by lunchtime. The afternoon will be spent acclimatizing. Enjoy dinner and rest at the campsite.
Day 4 : Bhojbasa to Tapovan | Trek Distance: 06 km | Trek Duration: 8-9 hours | Altitude: 12415 ft to 14203 ft
Today’s trek will be challenging as we head to Gaumukh, the source of one of India’s largest rivers. We’ll continue on to Tapovan, where stunning peaks like Shivling and Bhagirathi loom close. Overnight camping at Tapovan.
Day 5 : Tapovan to Bhojbasa | 6km trek, 5-6 Hours
Trek 6 km down from Tapovan to Bhojbasa with a packed lunch. Rest and relax at the Bhojbasa campsite.
Day 6 : Bhojbasa to Gangotri/Dharali | 15.5 Km Trek , 7-8 hours
Trek 14 km down from Bhojbasa to Gangotri with a packed lunch. Check into the hotel and rest.
Day 7 : Dharali/Gangotri to Dehradun | 280 Km Drive | 10-11 hours
After breakfast, check out and drive to Dehradun. Arrive by 8:00 PM—creating memories to last a lifetime!
Note: Hotel bookings depend on availability for the chosen dates. If a hotel is unavailable, a similar one will be arranged for the Char Dham Yatra.

How to reach
- The closest airport to Rishikesh is Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun, about 20 kilometers away. Flights to Jolly Grant are available from major Indian cities, after which you can take a taxi or bus to reach Rishikesh.
- Rishikesh has a railway station, Yog Nagri Rishikesh Railway Station Junction, which is well-connected to various parts of India. Many trains from major cities stop at Rishikesh. You can check the train schedule and book your tickets in advance to reach Rishikesh by train.
